Like the titular character in the upcoming gothic romance The Crow, multi-hyphenate musician FKA Twigs proverbially soared on the red carpet at the New York premiere. For her first leading role in a feature film, the English songstress seamlessly slipped into her movie star persona in a vintage silk Giorgio Armani dress. Privé archive to be exact, as the 36-year-old’s stylist Aniello Luca Migliaro pointed out.
The 90s-inspired piece featured a balconette-shaped bodice, an open back and a skinny halterneck style accent connected to the dress by two thin straps. Despite the conventional Hollywood glamour style of the piece, the nascent screen queen continued her eclectic style by offering an abstract take on method dressing.

Complementing the title of the 2024 remake, which is based on a supernatural comic book series first published in 1989, the “Caprisongs” singer accessorised her look with an avian manicure and claw-like headpiece. Adding a metaphysical element to her ensemble, FKA Twigs wore a talon-inspired ‘crown’ made of polished oxidised copper from avant-garde jewellery brand Malakai. Her nails sported a feathered pattern and razor-sharp elongated shape similar to a bird.

Taking to social media after the event, FKA Twigs crooned about her excitement to bring this new rendition of the cult-classic story to new audiences. “It’s important that I remind myself that The Crow started as an indie film and was born from love and wild ambition just how I like it,” she wrote. “The Crow is dark, raw and brooding but is rooted in romance and the dream of more.” Bill Skarsgård, who plays the main role, was also present for the advanced screening.

If you’ve seen the original 1994 adaptation starring Brandon Lee—which happened to be his final film after tragically dying due to accidental death during filming—you’ll already be familiar with the subject matter. For the uninitiated, this reimagined take will see Skarsgård and FKA Twigs portray soulmates Eric Draven and Shelly Webster.
As per the official logline, the engaged couple is “brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them”. “Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”
The Crow will be released in Australian theatres on August 29. Watch the trailer for the film below.
