To lose weight without dieting, all you might need to do is scroll through Instagram. According to the study about “Instafood,” (food-related photos on Instagram) this could actually be the case!
Staring at images of food can facilitate weight loss
This is the claim made by two marketing professors from Brigham University. They conducted an experiment involving 232 participants to demonstrate that, in general, viewing food images helps curb the desire to indulge in sweets and junk food.
Jeff Larson and Ryan Elder, the two researchers, divided the participants into two groups. The first group was exposed to images of savory snacks, fast food, and potato chips, while the second group viewed photos of desserts, cakes, and chocolate.
Afterward, both groups were presented with savory dishes.
Surprisingly, the first group, which had seen images of fast food, reported experiencing “less physical enjoyment” (yes, they used these words) when consuming the subsequent savory foods compared to those who had looked at dessert images.
The study suggests that the desire for unhealthy dishes had already been partially satisfied by the images.
For those seeking an alternative solution for weight loss without dieting. and in a pretty harmless and healthy manner, this might be worth a try.
