Kaia Gerber made waves at the 2022 annual Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles in October, wearing a spellbinding maison Alaïa creation, designed by creative director Pieter Mulier. The long-sleeve turtleneck dress with sheer black bodice, straps over her shoulders and a draped ruched mermaid skirt was hot off the Spring/Summer 2023 runway.
For the brand’s new campaign, Gerber slipped back into the same design for the photos, shot by British photographer Tyrone Lebon, staged on the roof of the multimedia artist Sterling Ruby’s studio in L.A.
Gerber posed in the evening with the palm trees lit up by streetlights behind her, and sported blown out curls, courtesy of hairstylist Anthony Turner, with classic glam from makeup artist Lucia Pica.
Proving the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, Gerber’s supermodel mother, Cindy Crawford was known for her close relationship with the brand’s founding designer Azzedine Alaïa, and starred in campaigns, made runway appearances and fostered a personal friendship with Alaïa.
Likewise, Gerber has known Mulier since the beginning of her modeling career. In 2017, Gerber made her New York Fashion Week debut at Calvin Klein at the tender age of 16, where the designer worked alongside then-creative director Raf Simons.

In October, stars graced the white carpet outside of the Academy Museum, which was designed by Renzo Piano, to celebrate the institution’s first anniversary. Gerber worked with stylist Danielle Goldberg for the quintessentially ‘90s look, foregoing any jewelry for a minimalist take on the show-stopping ensemble.
Wearing her caramel-colored hair in blown out waves with a side part, the model sported a neutral, glowing complexion with a soft, smokey eye and glossy lip.
Quite possibly Gerber’s best red carpet look to date, it’s more than worthy of a second moment in the spotlight.
