I can’t stop staring at photos of Addison Rae from the 2020 People’s Choice Awards on Sunday, November 15. The “Social Star of 2020” award nominee’s makeup was a glorious fusion of modern cool-girl and classic elegance. Perfectly paired with her red gown, the Lousiana native’s glam is officially high up on our list of the best socially distant red carpet looks of the year.
The 20-year-old stunned in a Sophie Theallet archival gown, styled by Siena Montesano. She accessorized the dress with Jimmy Choo footwear and bold Tiffany & Co jewels. Rae specifically donned sword-like earrings, teamed with a chain-link bracelet and a matching necklace.
The TikTok star’s glam was brought to life by celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan. The Los Angeles-based professional took inspiration from Rae’s gown when working on her glam. “The classic silhouette of the dress gave us the inspiration to do a classic makeup look with a slight modern twist: glowing skin and a red lip with deep corners for a slight ombré effect,” explains Deenihan in a press statement.
The beauty expert even shared behind-the-scenes pics of the exact products she used, including favorites from Pat McGrath, Alleven London, and Rae’s makeup line, Item Beauty. Deenihan shared a full breakdown of the products she used on Instagram, which you can scroll through below.
We can’t talk about Rae’s glam without giving props to her entire glam squad. Hairstylist Danielle Priano styled the brunette beauty’s hair in a sophisticated ponytail that, like her makeup, was inspired by her gown. Priano used Redken products and Luxy Hair 24″ Chocolate Brown Balayage Classic Extensions to perfect her long, glamorous pony.
“We drew inspiration from the classic silhouette of Addison’s gorgeous dress and decided to go with a ponytail,” says the stylist in a statement. “However, this isn’t your average ponytail – we had to make it more modern with the length and high shine, courtesy of the new Redken Shine Flash.”
Last but not least, the dancer’s ombré manicure was courtesy of Thuy Nguyen using OPI nail polish. “I originally wanted to create a lace base (with OPI’s #blackonyx) with a black French tip but mid-way through the process……I decided to switch it up by ombré-ing the tips!!!” writes Nguyen in an Instagram post.

To prep Rae’s skin prior to makeup application, Deenihan used a variety of Mario Badescu products, including this top-rated face mist.
To perfect Rae’s complexion, Deenihan mixed the Pat McGrath foundation shades 13 and 14. She also used Skin Fetish Sublime Perfection Concealer and Item Beauty Powder Hour.
This is just one of the breathtaking palettes Deenihan used for Rae’s mesmerizing eye look. She also used the shade named “Skinshow Glow” from the Mothership II: Sublime Palette, and Dark Star Volumizing Mascara.
Deenihan used this eyeliner pencil on the outer corners of Rae’s lips for dimension and a subtle ombré effect.
This is the exact classic red shade used all over Rae’s lips to match her gown.
Deenihan combined this glow-inducing body enhancer along with Mario Badescu Summer Shine Body Lotion and ALLEVEN Color Shield to give her skin an even, radiant appearance.
