Pour yourself a spritz, because the juiciest headline of Milan Fashion Week just landed far from the catwalk. Donatella Versace is officially back in the creative driver’s seat with a brand-new beauty and fashion venture created together with Los Angeles retail powerhouse Revolve. The project is fully independent and shaped around her personal vision, and it arrives with the kind of suspense Donatella has always known how to stage. The name is still under wraps, the first launch will start with beauty, and the big reveal is expected in the coming months. For a designer whose surname has been synonymous with Italian glamour for decades, starting over with a secret name feels like the most delightfully dramatic twist of all.

The road to this moment has been a whirlwind. In March 2025, Donatella stepped down as chief creative officer of Versace, the house she had guided since the loss of her brother Gianni in 1997, and took on the role of chief brand ambassador. Last December the maison became part of the Prada Group, and its creative reins passed from Dario Vitale, who stayed for a single season, to Pieter Mulier. The philosopher Roland Barthes once famously declared the death of the author, and in a way today’s heritage houses have taken him at his word, with the brand itself playing the lead role and designers taking turns as its interpreters. Donatella’s new chapter feels like the glamorous resurrection of the author. Much like Phoebe Philo when she launched her own label after her legendary years at Céline, she now gets to tell her story in her own voice, freed from any archive and answering only to her instinct. “This partnership gives me the freedom to speak to that generation in a completely new and personal way, through beauty and fashion,” she said.

Donatella will lead the venture as chief creative officer, shaping its identity and its products, while Revolve brings its technology and its direct connection with millions of shoppers. The brand will live on an entirely new online platform, designed as a digital world where fans can join the conversation as well as shop, and it will launch across the United States, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. “Revolve understands something I believe deeply: culture comes from connection,” Donatella explained. Revolve co-founder and co-CEO Michael Mente calls her “one of the defining creative voices of our time,” and the company already knows a thing or two about star-powered ventures, having partnered with Cardi B on beauty and with Sofia Richie Grainge. Donatella, of course, has the ultimate pop culture résumé. She designed the plunging green dress Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2000 Grammys, the look so searched that it inspired Google Image Search, she made a cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and her vintage Atelier Versace gowns keep lighting up red carpets on stars like Zendaya. A new generation is clearly ready for her next act, and the only question left is what she will call it. Something tells us it will be worth the wait.
