After a delayed release due to the historic SAG-AFTRA writers and actors strike, the steamy sports drama Challengers is finally getting the promotional tour it deserves. With Zendaya at the helm, supporting roles (and an apparent ménage à trois) from The Crown alum Josh O’Connor and newcomer Mike Faist, the Luca Guadagnino-directed production is serving up to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2024.

Despite concluding a magnum opus press tour for Dune: Part 2, Zendaya has wasted no time shedding her intergalactic couture ensemble for ace silhouettes inspired by the tennis theme of the film. Indeed, ahead of the cast’s upcoming visit to Australia next week, the Euphoria actress has seemingly replicated a scene straight out of the picture during a date to the BNP Paribas Open with her long-term boyfriend, Tom Holland. She might not be on the press tour, but this footage is the best marketing material possible.

The Louis Vuitton ambassador lent into the sportif codes of the French maison in an ivory pleated skort and a matching collared zip-up sweater with a hood. The 27-year-old toted the luxuriate’s pentagon-shaped Ellipse PM top-handle purse, accessorising the monogram canvas with a tennis ball bag charm.

However, it wasn’t just Zendaya’s overt references to the film that piqued our interest, but rather a sweet exchange captured by cameras during a set. At one point during the pair’s date, Zenday and Holland were filmed singing along to Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”. (See the cute moment below!)

Zendaya and her co-stars will be flying into Sydney soon to celebrate the Australian theatrical release on April 26. As per the film’s logline, we’ll see Zendaya star as Tashi, “a former tennis prodigy turned coach who is married to a champion on a losing streak.”

“Her strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend,” it reads. Watch the trailer for Challengers below. (And stream Nelly Furtado’s “Maneater” to get in the mood!)
