In Australia, we’ve been privy to Christopher Esber’s divine tailoring for some years now. The designer however hit a more pronounced international note with his Resort 20 collection – a beautiful deconstructed feast paraded to a pack of stylish sardines at a tiny art gallery in Sydney’s Paddington in May.
Hereafter, the lattice-like, criss-cross detailing was seen on Emily Ratajkowski and its cut-out blazer equivalent on Elsa Hosk. Tonight, Esber made headlines again, this time on Zendaya as she walked the 2019 People’s Choice Awards red carpet in Santa Monica in a one-shouldered, diamanté-lined cut-out. Completed with a top knot and punchy coral lip, the 23-year-old actor took home the Female Movie Star Award of 2019 for her role as MJ in Spider-Man Close To Home and Drama TV Star Of The Year for her work as 17-year-old drug addict Rue on HBO’s hit series Euphoria.
“Wow, thank you so much!” a surprised Zendaya said as she took the stage. “This is incredible. Thank you so much. Euphoria and Rue [are] I think one of the most beautiful things to ever happen to me and I just want to say thank you obviously to HBO and A24…for giving me the chance to be a part of something so beautiful.”
The Esber dress shone as bright as the Zendaya star tonight and was probably the scouting eye work of the actor’s stylist and fairy god-brother Law Roach. Regardless, get ready to see more Esber Resort 2020 on some more famous washboard abs soon. (Editor’s note: Since Zendaya wore the dress a couple of hours ago, the Australian designer’s website has since crashed!)
