High Low Beauty At YSL’s FALL 2022 Runway Show In Paris
Perfection
Under a sparkling Eiffel Tower, Anthony Vaccarello showed what will go down as one of the most romantic, memorable shows of his YSL career. Sinuous but inherently sophisticated, the FW2022 collection showed off a mostly-monochromatic colour palette (i.e. lots of black), sumptuous faux fur, shoulder-heavy coats and slinky gowns that hugged the body just so.
Second to the clothes was beauty — a mix of smudgy disco eyes, nude brows, catish liner and messy hair.

Karin Westerlund, who creative directed makeup, shied away from one universal look and instead played with pops of colour and differing shapes. Some models wore smokey shadow in royal blue and rich purple, while others had a YSL signature powdery cat eye. Bleached brows also made an appearance, as did peachy lips and skin that was essentially bare.
Hair, by renowned runway stylist Duffy, was purposefully undone. Inline with the French beauty philosophy that, ‘less is more’, flyaways, fluff and frizz were ever-present.
Tied into a low bun at the nape of the neck, the low-fi style was exactly right against the glamorous fashion — as if it had been done quickly in the back of a cab en route to somewhere special.
