Art: Kimberlee Kessler

No expense is spared when it comes to the dazzling Cartier High Jewellery collection, for even travel restrictions cannot hinder the arrival of the exquisite pieces to worldly shores. February has seen the highly anticipated showcase of precious stones tour abroad with the long revered Panthère collection front and centre for lovers of luxury craftsmanship. The Panthère Caline Ring – Cartier’s own work of art – is perhaps the most extravagant.

Drawing from over 100 years of intricate design, the Maison’s emblematic animal forms the motif of this ring. As if the panther is extracting a vital warmth from the gem, embracing and protecting the stone. Crafted from pink gold, emerald, diamond and onyx, the panther coils around the cabochon-cut rubellite – the stone suggesting an indistinguishable flame, the fiery colour of passion – and weighs an impressive 14.89 carats.

Something of this heritage and reputation is certainly not for the faint-hearted but will surely form a coveted heirloom for generations to come.

This is Cartier’s new work of art.
