It would have been a shock movie if she didn’t sign on, but it’s nonetheless exciting to confirm that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins will direct the film’s sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins has agreed to direct Wonder Woman 2, inking a deal that will make her the highest paid female film director in history.

After a long negotiation process with Warner Bros, Jenkins will earn US $7-9 million for Wonder Woman 2, a significantly higher amount than the reported $1 million she got for the first film.

You go, girl.

As it turns out, Jenkins and the Wonder Woman movie were both seriously underestimated in terms of popularity and profitability – the film smashed other recent Marvel films like Suicide Squad and Batman Vs Superman at the box office.

At last count, it had grossed more than US $800 million worldwide – that’s over a billion AUD. There’s no doubt Jenkins earned her pay rise.

Wonder Woman 2 will hit cinemas on December 13, 2019.

Not much else is known at this early stage, except that Gal Gadot will reprise her role as the fearless Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. It’s also understood the next film will be set in the US.

“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right,” Jenkins previously told Entertainment Weekly.

“She’s a Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”
