That bright and lively orange beverage is celebrating its centenary and that magical moment the alchemy of distillation produced an icon in the Venetian city of Padua one hundred years ago. Today, Aperol is one of the most cherished drinks in Italy and across the world and true to its jovial spirit, the makers of the aperitif are giving away tickets for you and three friends to attend one of its birthday parties in Sydney or Melbourne.

Baby Pizza, Melbourne

While the liquor cart staple in Spritz form might be light and fizzy, the beautiful Italian food by its side at these parties will be rich and full. At Baby Pizza, the Melbourne-based artisanal pizza place, you and your guest list can devour the huge antipasto boards, gourmet pizzas and pumpkin truffle gnocchi. If you’re in Sydney, your friends will head to Matteo Downtown where Sydney Rock oysters will be served with Aperol granita, followed by squid ink risotto with an orange scent, house-made carbonara and pizzas which will pay homage to the traditional Venetian aperitivo. Of course, Aperol Spritzs will be available all night.

Created in 1919 by the Barbieri brothers Luigi and Silvio, the citrus oil and precious herb blend is the perfect aperitif. It is it said it took the siblings seven years to get the secret recipe right and Aperol’s arrival came at a time in the world where people needed a little cheering up. World War One had just ended and the city of Padua hosted the first trade fair in Italy after undergoing a full economic revival. The brothers thought the monumental event was the perfect place to unveil their latest product. Little did they know you and your friends would be sipping on the exact recipe 100 years later at a night spot in Australia.
