After a long and well-documented feud, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift finally made amends this year.
It was Perry who seemed most eager to bury the hatchet, stating publicly on several occasions her desire to make up with Swift, and sending her a literal olive branch.
Now, the Roar singer has explained why she wanted so badly to be friends again.
“I just thought, you know, she was about to embark on something new and big [a tour] and needed the support,” Perry said.
“And truly, as I was finishing mine, I realised how much we have in common. And maybe there’s only five other people in the world that can have the same type of conversations and understand where we’re coming from …”
As for how it all went down, the recently-engaged singer said she approached Taylor.
“I just went up to her and I was like, ‘Hey, you know, it’s been a long time, and I think we’ve grown up a little bit. And I just wanted to say I’m sorry, and that I’m really here for you, and that I love you and, you know, I hope that we can be friends in the future,'” she recalled.
After a period of “talking a little bit” on text and “trusting each other,” Perry finally got the green light: an invitation to Taylor’s house to eat homemade cookies.
“She invited me over to her house, and she made me some cookies,” she said.
“And she actually makes those cookies, and they’re actually so delicious. And I brought them home.”
Last month, the pop stars officially put their war to bed when Perry appeared in Swift’s You Need To Calm Down music video.
“I can trust her and she can trust me,” Perry said.
“And we’ll see each other in the halls of the music industry and not avoid each other and we’ll embrace. And I think it’s amazing that we have this opportunity to change, and I just hope that other people can learn from it, too.”
