There are plum jobs, and then there’s Veneda Carter’s job. The 28-year-old Danish model-turned-stylist recently nabbed a gig as celebrity stylist to one of the famous women in the world: Kim Kardashian. Taking to Instagram overnight in a since-deleted post, Kardashian shared campaign images from her latest SKIMS campaign featuring Carter and her husband, crediting the model as her new stylist. To many on the internet, this was the first they’d heard of Carter, who, until her 2019 wedding, went by the name Veneda Budny.
So, what do we know about Veneda Carter? Surprisingly little for someone so connected to the Kardashian clan. She was born in Copenhagen and moved to New York City at 19, where she spent a decade as a working model. Her gigs included campaigns and runway shows for Yeezy, where she reportedly now works on the creative team, and which is likely how she was first introduced to Kardashian. Dubbed by WWD: “The ‘It’ Girl Stylist You Don’t Know”, Carter keeps details of her private life relatively quiet (her husband isn’t named in the article), and while she occasionally shares pictures of the styling work she does for Kim she doesn’t tag her, which has kept her social media account relatively quiet.
In October, Carter released a capsule collection of fine jewelry with the Scandinavian jewelry brand Fie Isolde, telling WWD that her personal aesthetic “has always been very influenced by rap and hip-hop.” She continued: “The Eighties and Nineties, early 2000s, that whole era… listening and watching music videos, watching interviews with rappers and artists, that 100 percent has given me some of the biggest influence and inspiration….African-American culture is a big inspiration for me, too.”
Carter—who Kardashian called “the coolest girl in the world” in an Instagram Story celebrating her birthday back in July—is responsible for some of Kim’s most fashion-forward looks from the last 12 months, including the ‘python print coat/leather trousers’ ensemble, the bevy of vintage Mugler, and *those* white cargo-style trousers.
