Whitney Peak is officially the new face of CHANEL’s iconic COCO MADEMOISELLE fragrance.

It was announced over the weekend that the young Canadian actress would assume the position after a longstanding relationship with the French fashion luxuriate. In 2021 she was appointed as a CHANEL ambassador in the US market, before becoming a muse for the 22 Bag ad campaign (of which she fronted alongside Lily-Rose Depp and Margaret Qualley).

Peak is only 20 years old, but has already made a name for herself as a talented actress. She starred in Hocus Pocus 2 and was also cast as a lead in the recent Gossip Girl reboot series. She also is said to have three exciting film projects in the works this year, but details are still currently confidential.

“Honestly, I never dreamed I’d get the attention of such a reputable house, let alone the pleasure of working with and representing them,” Peak shared via press release. “I’m looking forward to showing how versatile and timeless CHANEL is.”

COCO MADEMOISELLE has long been considered a quintessential CHANEL fragrance, but with a youthful edge, especially when stacked up against an icon such as N°5. It carries notes like amber, tonka and patchouli, but as CHANEL in-house Perfumer Olivier Polge describes, “it is never literal,” indicating the fragrance is less about notes, and more about the sum of its parts.

“I like to always reference what Gabrielle Chanel had said to Ernest Beaux while creating N°5,” Polge explains. “She was asking for an ‘artificial’ perfume. Not meaning synthetic but as in not linked to one specific raw material. She compared it to her work as a fashion designer; she’s building dresses, she’s sculpting shapes, she’s mixing fabrics… She was asking the perfumer to work with the same mindset. That is why at CHANEL we have always created perfumes that are composed like a dress and complete an allure.”

Peak brings a fresh, modern energy to the scent, paying homage to its origins but also ensuring this evolution feels distinctly her own. You can see the incredibly BTS imagery below, while the COCO MADEMOISELLE advertising campaign will be unveiled in March 2023.
