The Spring/Summer 2024 Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week is set to kick off today, and along with some other favourites, we’re eagerly awaiting to see what Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri has in store for us.

Always one to adhere to design fundamentals with deep reverence, Chiuri’s couture collections never cease to inspire awe with their faultless simplicity and intricate craftsmanship.

In last season’s Fall/Winter 2023 show, the creative director delivered a feast of Roman-style designs inspired by Adriana Cavarero, an Italian philosopher whose work focuses on feminist theory and bodily metaphors in political discourse. Then, the Spring/Summer 2024 ready-to-wear show blew us away with its interpretation of witchy style and featured live art by Italian visual artist Elena Bellantoni. For this collection, not much has been revealed other than a teaser suggesting moiré fabric techniques were going to serve as a focal point.

Moiré, a technical process popularised in the 18th century, involves crushing the grain of the fabric, which, in turn, creates ripples, nets and eyes within the fabric that then reflect light. In a clip posted to Dior’s official Instagram, snippets of beautiful floral fabrics were closely inspected and folded over to reveal layers of colour and prints.

With little clues to glimpse as to what this year’s haute couture collection will bring, it’s safe to say we’re more than intrigued.

The Dior Spring/Summer 2024 Haute Couture collection will be streaming from Paris tonight at 12:30 am (AEST). Catch the live show below!
