Following presentations in South Korea and India, Dior taps another vibrant culture for the setting of its latest show. For its Cruise 2024 debut, the French fashion house turns to Mexico, the Latin American country that once inspired its founder, Christian Dior.
Dior’s current creative head, Maria Grazia Chiuri, has long held a penchant for reinventing the maison’s archival designs with a modern sensibility. And as we know, Chiuri has already utilised influences of the country’s colourful culture for Dior Cruise 2019. The collection, hosted at the Musée Vivant du Cheval à Chantilly in Paris, paid tribute to Mexico’s Escaramuza Charra, a sport comprising all-women horseback riders.
While much remains under wraps until the show, Chiuri does intend to honour the local craftsmanship and rich culture of Mexico with her work. “Through this exciting dialogue, the creative director will highlight the artistry and some of the emblematic figures of this country that have been dear to Dior’s heart since the beginning of the house in 1947,” read a press statement from the brand.
Though we can’t all nab a front-row seat, we can tune in live to the show as it happens.
