Turns out we’ve got the Spice Girls to thank for more than just 90s girl power. We’ve also got to thank them for Beyoncé!

Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, has revealed that the Queen of Pop herself once thanked the girls for inspiring her to focus on her passions and be “proud to be a girl.”

“I met Beyoncé a few years ago, and she actually said to me, ‘It was the Spice Girls that inspired me and made me want to do what I do and made me proud to be a girl and proud to be who I am,’” Victoria said on Dear Media’s Breaking Beauty podcast.

“And when someone like Beyoncé, who is so iconic and was such a strong woman, says that she was inspired by the Spice Girls, I think that’s quite something.” No kidding.

Beyoncé and Victoria have had similar career trajectories, with Bey finding international fame in 1999 with Destiny’s Child, three years after the Spice Girls exploded with the iconic “Wannabe.”

Destiny’s Child had already been together for nearly a decade and had been through several line-up changes by the time “Bills Bills Bills,” from their second album The Writings On The Wall ,saw them hit the charts.

By 2003 Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams had forged solo careers, and Beyoncé is now arguably one of the most powerful women in pop.

As for Posh Spice – the Spice Girls also set out on their own paths, with Victoria releasing several solo singles and making appearances in Ugly Betty and Zoolander before becoming an acclaimed fashion designer.

The mom-of-four married British soccer player David Beckham, and their family is one of the powerful brands.
