It’s like the coming together of two great but very different minds. On the one hand, the sublime, simple craftsmanship of Japanese design, and on the other, the bold eclecticism of Finnish creativity. And together? A limited edition collection which is just lovely. Introducing the stellar new collaboration from Uniqlo and Marimekko for 2019.

Following on from a successful sartorial partnership in Spring 2018, our favourite LifeWear brand once again teams up with the Finnish design house to bring a Fall / Winter collection for women and for the first time, girls and babies.

Inspired by Finnish winter traditions, the collection taps the tradition of families enjoying the outdoors in sweeping snowy forests, under the magical canopy of the the northern lights, and gathering around the fireplace in cozy cabins. Showcasing some of Marimekko’s most recognisable prints, such as Kivet (stones), designed by Maija Isola in 1956, Tasaraita (even stripe), designed by Annika Rimala in 1968 and Siirtolapuutarha (city garden), designed by Maija Louekari in 2009, the bold whimsy of Marimekko comes to life on Uniqlo’s world famous innovation. The prints star on the first ever Ultra Light Down Cocoon Coat, Wool Cashmere Hoodie, shirt dresses, and jumpsuits, plus new items for girls and babies. There’s even HEATTECH socks, just the thing to combat a Finnish winter.

Melding Marimekko’s mission to empower people to be happy as they are and to bring joy to everyday life with Uniqlo’s commitment to creating high quality clothing that is both functional and affordable, the striking range blends wearability with wonder, and function with fantasy. Just the thing to sit around the fire in – and toast marshmallows to.
