Timothée Chalamet single-handedly stalled the internet at the weekend when stepped onto the red carpet at Venice Film Festival in a backless ensemble from friend and designer, Haider Ackermann, and Cartier jewellery. The actor appears alongside Taylor Russell in the forthcoming drama Bones and All which garnered a 10-minute standing ovation.

Adapted from Camille DeAngelis’s 2015 novel, Bones and All follows two teenage cannibals who join together to travel throughout 1980s American in search of an estranged father. The Guardian awarded it five stars and dubbed the film “a heartbreaking banquet of brilliance”. Speaking on the film at a press conference, Chalamet said it was a “relief” to play a character with “absent the need” of social media to wrestle with their coming of age.

“Without casting judgment on that – if you can find your tribe there, then all power,” he told reporters in an almost defeatist tone. “But I think it’s tough to be alive now. Societal collapse is in the air – it smells like it. Without being pretentious, that’s why these movies matter. That’s the role of the artist, or so I’m told – to shine a light on what’s going on.”

The 26-year-old added,  “To be young now, and to be young whenever — I can only speak to my generation — is to be intensely judged.”
