Corsetry is back in a big way, and it’s all thanks to Australia’s fashion boy wonder, Dion Lee. Prior to Lee’s sublime deconstructed feast in New York last month, his previous Autumn / Winter 19 collection honed the age-old practise with modern rigour, reimagining the rigidity of corsetry with contemporary fabrications such as jersey and new soft shapes. But the indubitable star of Lee’s boned collection is the Sheer Jersey Corset.
At some point in your daily Insta scroll, you would have likely seen the sheer white corset. Its soft jersey panelling and dipped hem has nipped the waists of celebrities both far and wide, making such a splash in Hollywood it has even made its way to the hips of Hollywood icon, Michelle Pfeiffer.
But Pfeiffer is only one of many. Bella Hadid has been a repeat offender, wearing it on the run and relaxed in Manhattan with an all-white hoodie and track pant, plus in a photoshoot.
While Kourtney Kardashian styled hers with Lee’s Trace Lace Bandeau (which has thankfully just been restocked) and Signature Boyfriend Jean, plus white pumps.
Locally, Mimi Elashiry styled hers with a pair of black Dion Lee trousers and Bulgari x Alexander wang bag.
And then a major fashion moment in CR Fashion Book, Kendall Jenner plus more Kendall Jenner’s (via old school TVs) in the corset.
Fittingly, the corset has sold out at Dion Lee and all external retailers, however Lee is re-stocking it on his online store shortly (see link below). Despite it being a sexy, modern work of art, it’s yet another example the power of celebrity beholds in fashion.
