A good sartorial manifesto to follow in 2021 is this: wherever Zendaya goes, we follow. And so when the actor/producer/woman-of-exquisite-taste fronted the campaign for Valentino’s Fall 2021 Roman Palazzo collection, our ears perked right up. Lensed by the legendary photographer David Sims, the new campaign sees Zendaya showcase key pieces from the Fall 21 collection in Los Angeles’ Palace Theatre—a fitting location for the partnership, thanks to both its Florentine-inspired exteriors and French-inspired interiors.
Valentino’s long-serving creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli imbued the Fall21 ready-to-wear collection with a couture sensibility. “I wanted the ésprit couture to be clearly felt in the collection,” he said at the time, “but without any hint of nostalgia or redundancy.” The end result married Piccioli’s well-established penchant for romanticism with a modern, punk edge. Flouncy polka-dot dresses were worn with chunky, lug-soled leather boots and Victorian-era piecrust collar blouses were paired with micro-mini skirts. And, of course, there were many a sheer evening gown one would happily sell a limb for.
Plus, there was the anticipated slew of drool-worthy accessories from Valentino Garavani. On the top of our list? An update on these icons—the Valentino Garavani Rockstud Alcove Bag, Valentino Garavani Rockstud Alcove low-heeled slingbacks (just add blue jeans and a crisp white shirt), and their wear-everywhere Valentino Garavani VLogo Top Handle totes, in classic black or ivory.
