Believe it or not, we’re fast approaching the end of 2020—and the sense of collective relief is palpable. A new year always offers an opportunity to think about what’s next, and right now we’re feeling optimistic enough to start thinking about what’s in store for our 2021 wardrobes.

You’d be forgiven for letting your sartorial radar slip this year—it’s pretty hard to focus on unearthing new designers when you’re confined to your couch. But as things are heading toward a new kind of normality, we’re shifting our focus toward new blood, unearthing some of the best emerging talent the global fashion industry has on offer.

Young fashion designers were hit particularly hard by this pandemic, so treat buying their pieces like a kind of patronage, an investment in the importance of unbridled creativity. Plus, you’ll be wearing some of the world’s coolest brands before anyone else even knows about them. Did someone say win-win?

Supriya Lele

Supriya Lele was among 2020’s LVMH Prize finalists in 2020 (the prize fund was split evenly between the eight nominees), and her designs have already caught the attention of the likes of Dua Lipa, Adwoa Aboah, and Bella Hadid. A second-generation British Indian, Lele’s designs marry traditional fabrics like dupion silk with asymmetrical cuts, distressed tailoring, and bold prints. The result? The happy place where chic minimalism and tasteful maximalism meet.

Her graduate collection—showcasing her classic ’90s minimalist, lingerie-inspired aesthetic—debuted in London during Fashion Week in February to immediate acclaim.
