Taylor Swift channels a biting, no-nonsense persona in her new single Look What You Made Me Do, and the video for the song looks to be just as intense.

Swift shared a 13-second preview of the video on Instagram late on Friday night AEST, ahead of its debut at the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday.

The brief clip shows her biting into what looks like a diamond choker, sitting in a throne-like chair tapping long nails on the arm rest as a snake slithers past, gliding through the air on a swing, and clad in fishnet stockings and black underwear surrounded by backup dancers.

Official #LWYMMDvideo world premiere. Sunday 8/27 at the @vmas.

She also shared the covers of two magazines with the same name as her upcoming new album, Reputation, and captioned one with a strong message:

There will be no further explanation. There will just be reputation.”

There’s been plenty of analysis of the lyrics of Look What You Made Me Do since it dropped on Friday. The sentiment could be applied to any of her main feuds – Katy Perry, Kanye West or Calvin Harris – but seems directed at West most of all.

I don’t like your little games
Don’t like your tilted stage
The role you made me play
Of the fool, no, I don’t like you

The opening lines seem to refer to the floating stage Kanye used on his Saint Pablo Tour, and how he and Kim Kardashian tried to shame Taylor by publishing footage of her seemingly agreeing to his mention of her in his song Famous, despite her claim she did not approve being called a b*tch.

Another line near the end of the track also seems to reference the phone call.

“I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now.”
“Why?”
“Oh, ’cause she’s dead!”

We’ll have to wait until Monday when the video premieres at the VMAs to see if Swift has offered any more clues about who she wrote Look What You Made Me Do about. If it is Katy Perry it’s bound to be awkward – Perry is hosting the ceremony this year.
