The Emmy Award nominations have been announced and amid all the surprises and snubs, no reaction was better or more wholesome than Sydney Sweeney. In a video posted to Instagram, the 24-year-old could bee seen tearing up before she promptly called her mother (that’s what I would do too).

Sweeney has been nominated for the first time, not once, but twice in the Best Supporting Actress category for her respective roles as Olivia and Cassie in the HBO Max series The White Lotus and Euphoria

“what a morning! thank you so much to the @televisionacad for my emmy nominations! It’s an honor to know that both Olivia and Cassie have connected with so many,” Sweeney wrote in an accompanying caption. “I’m so proud of both these shows and grateful to everybody that’s been apart of them. But most importantly mom, I love you, we did it through the ups and downs!🥺♥️🥰 thank you thank you!!”

Speaking to the New York Times shortly after the news, Sweeney recalled her mother’s reaction. “There weren’t many words. It was more of crying and saying how proud she was.”

“I’m able to just jump into who they are, and I know how they will react to something because of what has happened in their past,” she continued. “I’m able to flesh out these fully vivid characters because I’ve given them life through the work that I put into it.”

Sweeney’s co-star Zendaya made history for her contribution to Euphoria, becoming the youngest woman ever nominated for producing at 25. She also made history in 2020 when she became the youngest to win the Lead Actress in a Drama category. It comes after the actress teased that she may start directing for the award-winning series in a recent interview.
