On October 31, the Australian Turf Club 2020 Everest Carnival will continue for its last event at Rosehill Gardens where Sydney’s West will play host to Golden Eagle Day. The titular race, the $7.5 million Iron Jack Golden Eagle, features a 1500m event for four-year-olds, with guests encouraged to marry the festivities into trackside style.

Lavish daytime looks are no sin this Saturday, after all, all that glitters is gold and you’ve been invited to shine.

When it comes to Golden Eagle Day, as the name suggests, touches of gold are a fitting nod to the heritage of the event, while race day trends are seeing the return of the ’70s for women. Channel long hemlines and metallic accessories. For something très chic, swap the fascinator for a silk turban. “Sustainability is in fashion”, this season with guests of Everest Day asked to recycle a past race day look.

For the men, the lapel rose colour is Yellow and paired with classic tuxedo lends heightened sophistication.

Australian Turf Club Official Stylist, Jess Pecoraro suggests experimenting with headpieces and fashion-forward accessories for an unexpected twist. “It’s the perfect way to be fashion forward while also sticking to the race day rules,” she tells GRAZIA.

DRESSING TIPS FROM CELEBRITY STYLIST, JESS PECORARO:

WHEN IT COMES TO RACE DAY DRESS CODES, HOW STRICTLY SHOULD WE ADHERE TO THEM? CAN YOU SHARE SOME WAYS WE CAN BE A LITTLE MORE INVENTIVE WHEN INTERPRETING THEM?
KEEPING IT SIMPLE IS DEFINITELY KEY TO ACHIEVING AN OVERALL RACE DAY LOOK. EXPERIMENTING WITH HEAD PIECES AND FASHION-FORWARD ACCESSORIES IS THE PERFECT WAY TO PUSH THE ENVELOPE WHILE STICKING TO THE RACE DAY RULES.

WHAT ARE YOU FAVOURITE TRENDS / STYLES THIS RACING SEASON?
A HUGE TREND IS TIE-DYE, WHICH HAS BEEN NICE SEEING THAT STREAMLINED TO MORE RACE DAY APPROPRIATE LOOKS AS WELL AS ANYTHING WITH VOLUME AND TEXTURE.

ARE THERE ANY TRENDS / STYLES THAT SHOULD BE KEPT AWAY FROM THE TRACK?
DENIM AND ACTIVE – LEAVE THEM AT HOME.

WHAT ARE THE BIG HEADWEAR TRENDS THIS YEAR?
LAYING A MIX OF HEADBANDS AND CLIPS IS A REALLY FUN WAY TO ACHIEVE A RACE DAY LOOK AS WELL AS ADDING A FACE VEIL, A BOATER AND FUN HAIR ELASTICS – ANYTHING GOES.

WHO ARE YOUR GO-TO MILLINERS THIS RACING SEASON?
WE LOVE SUPPORTING LOCAL MILLINERS SO NERIDA WINTER, NEIL GRIGG, VIKTORIA NOVAK AND ANN SHOEBRIDGE ARE ALWAYS A FAVOURITE.

YOUR FAVOURITE RACING RULES TO LIVE BY?
NEVER TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF.

When it comes to accompanying your race day-ready look, Australian Turf Club Beauty Expert, Michael Brown puts emphasis on natural beauty, below.

BEAUTY TIPS FROM CELEBRITY MAKE-UP ARTIST MICHAEL BROWN:

“Don’t forget the races are a daytime event,” Australian Turf Club Beauty Expert Michael Brown tells GRAZIA. As a makeup artist to the stars, the man is dubbed as the “go-to guy for beauty” in Australia, with his resumé boasting work from the catwalk to national television. With his finger on the pulse on all things face, Brown also knows a thing or two (read: everything) on easy, lasting makeup for the field.

SKIN PREP

“One of my biggest tips for trackside beauty is skin prep. I like doing the eye makeup first so we can put moisturisers and serums on, so it really soaks in before you start the foundation.”

YVES SAINT LAUREN TOUCHE ECLAT BLUR PRIMER, $72 VIA SEPHORA. SHOP NOW

HIGHLIGHTER

“Another tip is using a highlighter that isn’t so sparkly and metallic. Don’t forget the races are a daytime event. I’m using a creamy one that looks more like your own skin highlight, than a make up highlight.”

LIPS

“For Spring, I love lips that have a glossy sheen to it, but not necessarily a lip gloss. So, lipsticks that are a balm texture are perfect for long wear and use a brighter colour for Spring.”

SHISEIDO COLORGEL LIP BALM VIA MECCA COSMETICA, $42. SHOP NOW

Trackside and in partnership with Fabric of Multicultural Australia (FOMA), racegoers can also purchase a ticket to the FOMA runway show at theraces.com.au, which will feature a 3-course sit down lunch curated by Rosehill Gardens Executive Head Chef, Gerry Maher, beverage packages and stunning trackside views in The Grand Pavilion Room. There is a myriad of hospitality offerings in addition, which you can explore here.

For those fillies who like a little dressage, don’t forget this is last opportunity to enter the Spring Fashion Stakes competition for your chance to win a share of $20k cash. And the best part? You don’t even need to be trackside to enter. A new digital format will see keen fashionistas able to partake at home: simply capture a photo or video of your outfit in portrait mode and upload via the entry form here. Winners will be announced on the big screen at Royal Randwick or via the Australian Turf Club’s social media channels. Your judges are Everest Carnival Ambassador, Sam Armytage, Golden Eagle Day Ambassador, Erin Holland and Elle Halliwel.

As one of the most glamorous days at Rosehill Gardens, Golden Eagle Day is not to be missed.
