Selena Gomez’s mum Mandy Teefey has admitted she told her daughter not to work with alleged child sex abuser Woody Allen, but her advice fell “on deaf ears”.

In response to a comment on her Instagram account from a user who thinks Selena should apologise for starring in the director’s new film A Rainy Day In New York, given the sex abuse allegations against him by his daughter Dylan Farrow, Mandy said:

“Sorry, no one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn’t click,” Teefey wrote.

“Her team are amazing people,” she continued. “There is no fall person here.

“No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears.”

It comes as Selena’s co-star in A Rainy Day In New York, Timothee Chalamet, announced he would donate his earnings from the movie to charity.

“I don’t want to profit from my work on the film, and to that end, I am going to donate my entire salary to three charities: Time’s Up, The LGBT Center in New York and RAINN,” he wrote in a lengthy Instagram post explaining his reasons.

“I want to be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave artists who are fighting for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.”

Woody directs Timothee and Selena in A Rainy Day In New York.

The move follows actress Rebecca Hall, who also stars in A Rainy Day In New York; she announced last week she would donate her profit from the film to Time’s Up.

Allen’s daughter Dyan Farrow, now 32, has alleged for more than two decades that Allen sexually abused her when she was seven years old. He was investigated and never charged, and has repeatedly denied the allegations.

The revelation from Selena’s mum comes after some apparent tension between the pair. Just before Christmas, it was reported that Mandy had to be hospitalised after becoming distressed during an argument with her daughter over her rekindled romance with Justin Bieber.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ a family member called an ambulance to a Los Angeles hotel room because Mandy “flipped out” and was “worked up” after a “heated conversation” with Selena.

A Rainy Day In New York also stars Elle Fanning, Jude Law, Suki Waterhouse and Liev Schreiber. A release date has not been set.
