After it was announced in January that The Bold Type would wrap up after season five, an air date for its final season has arrived: May 27 on Stan.

Based on three twenty-something women working in New York’s glamorous fashion industry, viewers were left with Kat (Aisha Dee), Jane (Katie Stevens) and Sutton (Meghann Fahy) looking for meaningful change both personally and professionally at the end of season four.

According to the official synopsis: “In the final season, our trio is on the brink of defining who they really are and how to best leave their mark on the world. Their futures are bright, and their love and support for each other will never change.”

The Bold Type is inspired by the life and career of former editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine Joanna Coles, who is executive producer of the series.

GRAZIA spoke with Australian actress Dee in the lead up to season four. While the 27-year-old has expressed displeasure in with her character’s storyline in the past, she hopes the show forms as inspiration for fans.

“This might be a bit presumptuous but I really hope that shows like The Bold Type empower people to be brave and ask for what they want in the workplace and make the career move, no matter what industry they work in, especially for marginalised voices,” Dee told GRAZIA.” I really hope that The Bold Type is an inspiring voice to those people.”

Speaking on her co-stars, Stevens and Fahy in the same interview, Dee reflected, “We really are like sisters now and we’ve been doing this for a long time and we’ve seen each other through love and breakups and good days and bad days and PMS and all the rest of it. I don’t really know what I would do without them. I think we clicked immediately and fell into a routine that balanced each other out in a really natural way. Now, our friendship has evolved and it’s definitely different. There’s this honesty that you can only get through being with them for a long time.”

The series also stars Stephen Conrad Moore and Melora Hardin.

Although we’re sad to bid farewell to The Bold Type, similar fashion-fuelled content including Younger and the reboot of Gossip Girl is expected to release in 2021.
