Overnight it was announced that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky (whose real name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers) were expecting their first child. In images released to the world wide web, the couple were strolling through Mayers’ hometown of Harlem, in the most chic way possible. The pop star’s father, Ronald Fenty has since reacted to the happy news.

Speaking to Page Sixthe Barbados native said, “I’m ecstatic. I’m so happy that I jumped for joy. I’m still so excited.” He continued, “Rihanna always said that she wanted children, she loves kids. She always takes care of her cousins’ kids…she’s going to be a good mom.”

Fenty reportedly met Mayers in December 2020 when the couple travelled to Rihanna’s home country. Fenty has described the rapper as a “cool guy” and added, “I like him”. It’s not exactly the gushing Michael B Jordan received from Lori Harvey’s father, but I’m sure Mayers is happy to have the tick of approval.

According to the publication, Rihanna called her father on Sunday night before the news broke online. “I just got the news from her last night, and she sent me some photos,” he said. “I’m just over the moon. She’s beautiful inside and out.”

Rihanna and Fenty have had a tumultuous relationship. The man is a known alcoholic and drug addict. The Fenty Beauty founder sued her father in 2019 for exploiting the Fenty name for his own financial gain after he named his business, ‘Fenty Entertainment’ and attempted to book appearances of Rihanna. The 33-year-old reportedly scrapped the lawsuit last September after they settled outside of court.

Rihanna has long wanted children, specifically a daughter.

“I’m a Black woman. I came from a Black woman, who came from a Black woman, who came from a Black woman and I’m going to give birth to a Black woman,” she told Essence in a 2019 red carpet interview. “It’s a no-brainer. That’s who I am. It’s the core of who I am in spirit and DNA.”
