SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: The iconic Strand Arcade has become home to Rebecca Vallance’s flagship boutique, a literal glittering jewel on level one of the 132-year-old premium retail gallery. To celebrate, Sydney’s fashion set gathered amongst the bows, the lace and the embellishments on May 9 to toast to creative director Rebecca Vallance-Gasan’s sixth store.
To the backing of harpist Rebekah Chandler’s ethereal strings, guests sipped champagne and sauntered throughout the new space—a crisp white palette by Archer Designs, perfectly punctured by marble finishes and berry-hued florals. There was Kate Waterhouse, Rey Vakili, Sarah Stephens and Sally Obermeder in new season black minis while Laura Dundovic and Terry Biviano made convincing cases for an RV red. But it was Vallance-Gasan herself—tall, gracious and in an elegant black, off-the-shoulder blazer and skirt—who turned heads as she thanked the influential set before her for their support for her eponymous brand.
Since launching in Paris in 2011—a deft move which saw the Australian designer immediately secure Harvey Nichols in Riyadh and Kuwait—the Rebecca Vallance brand has grown exponentially. The house’s campaign shoots are quite often shot internationally (Italy is one of Vallance-Gasan’s favourites), its clientele includes both the hard New Yorker and the laid-back Australian, and in June 2023, the designer nabbed the coveted deal with Qantas: to design the new Business Class “sleeper suit” on the Sydney to New York via Auckland route. There’s always a weekly celebrity sighting: Lady Gaga stepped out in Rebecca Vallance, so did a Spice Girl, and is that Paris Hilton in a puff sleeve again?
