Is it a classic daytime power suit elevated to high heaven, or a glamorous red carpet outfit pared back?

Ralph and Russo’s Spring Summer 2019 Haute Couture suiting could aptly be described as both – in a high-glam rework of Working Girl chic.

Amidst the typically girlie pom-pom dresses and flouncy gowns we’d typically see on couture runways were ‘90s power-suits that are a gift to any woman who’s ever dreamed of wearing pants to a black-tie function (slash-wedding-slash-anything of elevated stakes).

There’s was nothing masculine about the tailored suiting we saw here though – rather, the Latin-American themed collection landed hard at the sexy-femme end of the fashion spectrum.

A pink tunic suit with a scoop neckline in candy-floss pink. An acid green pant-suit with a beaded snake winding around a sexy, nipped-in waist. A bedazzled mint-green two-piece capped with a sombrero-wide hat. (Rita Ora at the 2019 Oscars? Here’s hoping!) All were paired with coloured stilettos (the ultimate power-heel), of course.

Up-close, each of these pieces surely boasts the exquisite workmanship that’s drawn starlets and modern-day princesses to the brand, which is co-designed by London-based Aussies Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo. (Meghan Markle famously chose a Ralph and Russo gown for her official engagement photos.)

Watch this space as a host of others – luxury and high-street – follow suit with the look for 2019. (Yes, pun unapologetically intended.)
