In the latest instalment of its designer collaboration series, H&M has linked up with the house of Rabanne for a high-energy collection of show-stoppers. Fusing the house’s signature glamour and intricate craftsmanship, the collection boasts the retrofuturistic aesthetics cemented by Rabanne’s founder, Paco Rabanne.
Just as he reinvigorated these codes with a contemporary lens a decade ago, creative director Julien Dossena now brings his eye to H&M for all of us to revel in. Within the disco-ready range, shimmery details like chainmail and mirrored paillettes are heroed alongside everyday pieces. Key moments include sleek tailoring along with luxe athleisure and military-style silhouettes embellished with embroidery. Using a mix of recycled and conventional materials, the collection features pieces crafted from real leather, mohair, and wool.
But Rabanne X H&M doesn’t just extend across womenswear, menswear and accessories. Homewares also appear in candlesticks and cocktail shakers to set the tone for cocktail hour.
“I approached this collection with a desire to create an inclusive, instinctive vision of fun, drawing out the playful side of Rabanne with the chainmail and sequin pieces and offsetting them with 1970s tailoring and leisurewear,” wrote Dossena of the news, adding that this was a homage to the house’s founder.
“Paco Rabanne was a genius when it came to radical design and innovative materials; I’m excited to take that philosophy further with a collection that makes our icons more accessible and also pushes the boundaries of sustainability.”
Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M, echoed the designer’s excitement.
“Founder Paco Rabanne was the master of metal, famous for shaking up Parisian haute couture with Space Age modernism,” said Johansson in a statement. “In the same spirit, Julien has brilliantly reinvigorated an iconic brand, infusing it with fresh energy. It’s a joy to be able to bring such exciting, instantly recognisable Rabanne designs to our customers with this dynamic collection.”
