Despite neither Prince Harry nor Meghan Markle receiving an invitation to attend this year’s Trooping the Colour, the Duke of Sussex is reportedly “nostalgic” for his “old life” in the UK. Since stepping down as senior members of the royal family, the couple have made concerted efforts to plant their roots in Markle’s native California. (The former actress branded her aspirational lifestyle line “American Rivera Orchard” in reference to their Montecito home, a telling example of where their allegiance lay.)

In spite of the snub, royal experts have alleged that Prince Harry is “in a difficult position” as he’s feeling increasingly sentimental about the life he left behind. As reported by The Mirror, “Prince Harry wants to spend more time in the UK, but he knows he is going to have to do it alone”. The Duchess of Sussex confirmed she has no intention to return to England, with public dismissal allegedly making it harder for “any kind of positive relationship to be re-established” with the monarchy.

“After the excitement of moving to the US, the honeymoon period is now over and Harry is beginning to find time hangs heavy for him,” the source told the publication. “For all his problems with his family, he always loved his military and school friends and he misses them.”

The new allegations come amid reports Prince Harry is looking to expand his real estate portfolio across the Atlantic. Royal author Tom Quinn claims Prince Harry is “determined to find his own permanent home in the UK”, citing his interest in having a stable base for his friends to visit him in London as the rationale for his asset acquisition.

Quinn alleges the residence would be a suitable neutral ground for Prince Harry’s friends who don’t get along with Markle, adding that the purchase could be partly why the Invictus Games founder is “continuing legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security”.

However, it appears to be just contention, with Vanity Fair dispelling claims the Sussexes are snapping up properties across the pond. Prince Harry and Markle have not resided in the UK since relocating to Santa Barbara during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, the couple vacated their former home on the grounds of Windsor Castle, Frogmore Cottage.

Prince Harry reportedly stays in hotels—though there is no mention if he frequents the SoHo House 76 Dean Street address, that is the townhouse where he and Markle shared their first date—and hung out with friends while he’s visiting London.

More to come.
