There’s so many headlines popping about the internet right now in regards to the release of this new book excerpt. There’s the one about Kate Middleton making little effort to help Meghan Markle assimilate into Royal life. There’s the other about it actually being Prince Harry’s decision – and not his wife’s – to step back from Royal duties (Markle apparently wanted to try everything before coming to this decision).

But the reason Finding Freedom – a book penned by reliable Royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand – will do so well is because, politics aside, it deep dives into the Duke and Duchess’ relationship. And yes, as this headline promises, it covers who said “I love you” first.

Of course it was Prince Harry.

The new biography reveals the couple were “obsessed” with one another after their first date at London’s Dean Street Townhouse. Describing it as a “palpable attraction”, the book says the couple raved about one another to friends, Markle allegedly telling her circle that the relationship “could have legs”. The Royal left feeling in a “trance”.

Another cute little fact: the couple reportedly didn’t kiss on their first date. The whirlwind relationship then saw a second date and a third before the Prince whisked the actress off on a trip to Botswana in South Africa.

“She came back smiling and just completely spellbound,” a friend describes in the book.

What lay before them would test their relationship in a way they never would have imagined. But together, they got through it – and after a spectacular exit from life inside the palace walls – they seemingly have finally found peace living in Los Angeles with their one-year-old son Archie.

A spokesperson for Markle and Prince Harry has denied that the couple had anything to do with the book. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom,” it reads. “This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.”
