Piers Morgan, the controversial host of Good Morning Britain, walked off the set of the popular live breakfast show today, one day after he made scathing comments on Meghan Markle’s suicide ideation and Prince Harry’s mental health struggles.

Following Sunday’s tell-all interview between the royal couple and Oprah Winfrey, Morgan told his listeners he thought the Duchess lied about being suicidal.

“Who did you go to? What did they say to you? I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report,” Morgan said on Monday. “The fact that she’s fired up this onslaught against our Royal family, I think, is contemptible.”

Sky News reports 41,000 viewers complained to the show’s network, ITV, prompting Morgan’s resignation. The UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, is now launching an investigation.

The following morning, Good Morning Britain‘s co-anchor Alex Beresford went on a two-minute rant criticising Morgan for his comments.

“I hear Piers say that William has gone through the same thing, but do you know what? Siblings experience tragedy in their life, and one will be absolutely fine and brush it off and the other will not be able to deal with it so strongly,” Beresford said. “That is clearly what has happened with Prince Harry in this situation. He walked behind his mother’s coffin at a tender, tender age in front of the globe. That is going to shape a young boy for the rest of his life. So, I think that we need to all take a step back.”

“And I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle,” Beresford continued. “You’ve made it so clear a number of times on this program, a number of times. And I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle — or had one — and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but you continue to trash her.”

Morgan then dramatically threw his toys out the pram and stormed off, live on air.

“I’m done” he kept saying. Watch the moment below.

“That is absolutely diabolical behaviour,” Beresford reacted. “I’m sorry, but Piers spouts off on a regular basis, and we all have to sit there and listen. Six-thirty to seven o’clock yesterday was incredibly hard to watch.”

The 55-year-old has subsequently quit his role.

“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” a statement released by the television station read. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

Not only has Morgan had a long-standing vendetta against Markle, he has a history of bullying not only his colleagues but other women of influence. Shortly before the 55-year-old walked off set, he forced a fellow co-anchor to stand from her seat after he believed her skirt was too short.

“My eyes were slightly distracted this morning because apparently summer has arrived which I wasn’t aware of. But this first sign of summer has traditionally at Good Morning Britain been Charlotte Hawkins arriving in a mini-skirt.”

Hawkins appeared quite taken aback by the comments and replied, “It’s just a dress!”

Just last week, Morgan made sarcastic, misogynistic comments over Emily Ratajkowski’s at-home pregnancy shoot.

“Congratulations to Emily Ratajkowski, an old friend of the show. A very private lady, very concerned about her privacy as always, and has revealed very private pictures of herself. The whole point is she has gone completely naked – it seems almost mandatory now for famous women, when they’re pregnant, to go naked. Just to show what a naked pregnant woman looks like.”

He continues, “We are kind of done, aren’t we? Of the naked, pregnant, famous person doing it just for clicks?”

Morgan has been a presenter at Good Morning Britain since 2015.

Good bye and good riddance.
