Last night, that beautiful joie de vivre that is French girl beauty came to life in Penélope Cruz at the Chanel Metiers d’art 2019/2020 show. The actress – who was dressed head to toe in Chanel – also embraced the Parisienne way when it came to her beauty look; skin that looks like skin, freckles, a smudged eye, nude lip and hair that hangs just so.
The allure of Paris cool and French-girl beauty habits is longstanding, characterised by nonchalance and a way of making effort appear effortless. Cruz seemingly accomplished all of the above sitting front row at Le Grand Palais, pairing creamy skin with a smattering of soft, diffused freckles (au naturale, or the handiwork of an artist:? We’ll leave you to decide). Her eyes were perfectly Parisienne; smudged liner with no discernible beginning or end, fluffy lashes, framed with full but still groomed brows. Paired with a swirl of peachy blush, nude lips and a swishy-but-still-casual blow dry the finish product was, as the french would say, parfaite.
Held at Le Grand Palais, the show was a celebration of the handiwork of the house’s ateliers, and also marked creative Director Virginne Viard’s first of the varietal since the passing of Karl Lagerfeld.
