Pat McGrath’s point of difference — the thing that sets her apart from other makeup artists — has always been her way with texture. From celestial eye pigments to dimensional, almost velvety lipstick, the quality of her finishes are always a cut above the rest. McGrath’s signature skin is a perhaps the most notable calling card — creamy, dewy, opaque but never mask-like — so it makes perfect sense that the existing makeup brand will be expanding into skincare.
It was announced via Instagram last week that the inaugural product will be Divine Skin Rose 001 The Essence, a Korean-made milky essence-toner formula made with 97 percent naturally-derived ingredients. According to the website, the bi-phase fluid is rich in rose water, ceramides, botanical oils and other hydrators, that when emulsified drench the skin in nourishing but easily-absorbed moisture, leaving it replenished, bouncy and fresh.
“For the first-ever foray into Skincare by Pat McGrath Labs, I wanted to create something for all skin types that’s the effortless first step to awakening our complexion’s natural moisture memory, revealing the skin we are born with, reawakened,” McGrath explained in a press release. “It’s my dream come true.”

Supermodel Naomi Campbell is the face of the launch, lending her immaculate complexion to the campaign imagery.

Divine Skin: Rose 001™️ The Essence is reportedly dropping on the brand’s website May 5th, with potential to expand into Sephora stores later in the year (no word yet on a local Australian launch). While we get a makeup brand moving into skincare isn’t always desirable (the phrase, ‘stay in your lane’ springs to mind) McGrath’s history of cocktailing various skincare products to create the ultimate base gives us faith that The Essence is the ultimate way to achieve such a glow at home. And because it’s purely nourishing, it should slot into any skincare routine with ease.
