Welcome to Take Note – a weekly rolodex of all the best in skin, wellness, and makeup from industry insiders. Each week, we’ll profile one woman who’s privvy to beauty, covering everything from recommendations to routines. Today, we’re chatting with Jaimee Lupton, the brains behind MONDAY Haircare. For the uninitiated, MONDAY Haircare is a New Zealand-founded haircare brand housed in extremely aesthetic pastel-pink packaging. But the real hook? The price point. At only $10 for a 350ml shampoo, MONDAY had seemingly done the impossible: a chic, quality product that didn’t burn a hole in your wallet.

The reception was overwhelming, and rightly so. It sold out from its Australian stockist Coles within days, with the supermarket opting to put a purchase limit on its products (much like the pandemic-pasta debacle of 2020). It’s been a wild ride ever since, with Jaimee and her business partner (slash supermodel) Georgia Fowler working hard on expanding the MONDAY offering.

GRAZIA was fortunate enough to pick Jaimee’s brain and ask her all things beauty, from haircare (obviously) to her skincare and makeup favourites. From luxe moisturiser to a genius trick when it comes to smoothing a slick bun, this is one interview worth saving (and sharing – your girlfriends will love you for it).

GRAZIA: What does your morning skincare routine look like?

Jaimee: I apply Aspect Dr Multi B Plus Serum every morning and if my skin is a little dry I’ll switch it out for Re.Form Serum by Re.Skin. I also add Dose&Co Collagen Creamer (the vanilla is my favourite) to my smoothie or coffee every morning to keep my hair, skin and nails strong.

GRAZIA: And evening?

Jaimee: A few nights a week I use Aspect Dr Exfol A Plus Serum, which is a retinol, and I swear by this for fading scars, preventing breakouts and just generally keeping my skin looking good. I always double cleanse at night with the Aspect Dr Deep Clean Facial Cleanser.

GRAZIA: If you were heading to a deserted island, what three products would make the cut?

Jaimee: La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Ultra-Fluid Tinted SPF, Tatcha’s Kissu Lip Mask and MONDAY Repair Shampoo + Conditioner – to fix all that sun damage to the hair!

GRAZIA: Favourite SPF formula?

Jaimee:La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Ultra-Fluid Tinted SPF.

GRAZIA: Skincare cheap thrill?

Jaimee: Lanolips 101 Ointment or Glossier Balm Dotcom.

GRAZIA: And splurge?

Jaimee: La Mer Crème de La Mer.

GRAZIA: What’s your go-to method for treating a pimple, fast?

Jaimee: Triple my dose of daily fish oil and double my dose of Dose&Co Collagen – I’m a firm believer that bad skin should be fixed from within.

GRAZIA: Do you have a makeup muse?

Jaimee: For a glam look I’m obsessed with Kristin Fisher’s approach to makeup – it’s always flawless, and for everyday-makeup I take my cues from Madeleine of The Twenties Club.

GRAZIA: What’s your go-to makeup look?

Jaimee: Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Face Primer, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer for under my eyes and NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer for any blemishes. Too Faced Damn Girl 24-Hour Mascara, MAC Cosmetics Brow Gel in Clear, By Terry Lip Liner in Perfect Nude and Dior Addict Lip Glow in shade Glow 04.

GRAZIA: Holy grail foundation?

Jaimee: NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation.

GRAZIA: And most used lip colour?

Jaimee: MAC Cremesheen Lip Glass in the shade Boy Bait.

GRAZIA: Best ever mascara?

Jaimee: I was a diehard Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara girl for about ten years until I discovered Too Faced Damn Girl 24-Hour Mascara. That stuff is the best.

GRAZIA: How do you shape and fill your brows?

Jaimee: I’m lucky to have naturally full brows so I usually just run a clear MAC Brow Gel through them to keep them tidy, and visit Kristin Fisher Eyebrows whenever I’m in Sydney for some maintenance.

GRAZIA: Makeup trend you’ll never try?

Jaimee: Well, one trend I will never try again is the panda eyes I sported throughout my youth… thick black liner is just not for me.

GRAZIA: Signature fragrance?

Jaimee: Gypsy Water by Byredo – ALWAYS!

GRAZIA: What does your vacation makeup kit look like?

Jaimee: The simpler, the better. I skip the foundation and use Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonderglow Primer to create a nice canvas, then add a lick of Too Faced Damn Girl 24-Hour Mascara and NARS Bronzer in the shade Laguna if I haven’t had enough time in the sun already! I’ve always got and Dior Addict Lip Glow in shade Glow 04 in my travel bag as it provides hydration and a little pigment at the same time.

GRAZIA: Is there a quirky makeup trick you can share?

Jaimee: If you’re doing a chic low bun or high pony tail, use a clear eyebrow gel to smooth down any fly-aways. It gives a much softer finish than hairspray.

GRAZIA: Favourite shampoo and conditioner duo?

Jaimee: MONDAY Haircare, of course! The secret combo is our Smooth Shampoo with the Repair Conditioner – it gives you the best of both worlds.

GRAZIA: Can’t live without styling product?

Jaimee: I don’t use many styling products but I’m excited to say MONDAY has a few in the pipeline.

GRAZIA: Tip for styling hair of your texture?

Jaimee: Curls hold best when your hair is at least a day or two between washes. For a more effortless look, curl your hair the night before the event and then run your fingers through the ends upon waking.

GRAZIA: Hair tool you can’t live without?

Jaimee: I’ve been completely mesmerised by the Mermade Hair Waver! It creates perfect waves in a matter of minutes without all the usual fuss.

GRAZIA: Dream hair?

Jaimee: Jessica Alba’s! I love her natural beachy waves.

GRAZIA: In a sentence, what’s your approach to wellness?

Jaimee: Find the things that make you look and feel your best, and then waste no time apologising for them.

GRAZIA: What’s your philosophy when it comes to food?

Jaimee: Eat well often, but never place restrictions on yourself when it comes to special indulgences.

GRAZIA: What are some common meals in your food repertoire?

Jaimee: Breakfast: A green smoothie with a huge scoop of my favourite collagen powder Dose & Co, Morning snack: fruit! I’m obsessed with it – we always have a weekly supply of fresh fruit in the office. Lunch: Something healthy and loaded with vegetables like a salmon poke bowl. Dinner: This changes all the time but at the moment I love miso-roasted eggplant with sesame seeds and spring onions, served with brown rice, broccolini and salmon. YUM.

GRAZIA: How do you love to move your body?

Jaimee: I love how strong Pilates makes me feel and recently bought a bunch of Nagnata athleisure wear which I can’t wait to wear in studio! I either visit Reform Pilates in Auckland or follow a routine online created by Fluidform Pilates called Fluidform at Home.

GRAZIA: What would your final meal be?

Jaimee: PIZZA! Without a doubt. The thing I miss the most about the food scene in Sydney is Ciccia Bella Osteria.

GRAZIA: What tricks do you put in place to ensure you get a good night’s sleep?

Jaimee: I could lie and say I stay off my phone an hour before bed but I don’t. I’m an email-in-bed-kind-of-girl until the early hours. That being said, when I’ve finally finished my emails, I spray my pillow and sheets with ThisWorks Deep Sleep Pillow Spray – it contains lavender, vetivert and wild chamomile, and is formulated without any phthalates, sulphates, parabens or fragrance.
