Cheyenne Maya Carter Racism

British model Cheyenne Maya Carty has something to say. Well, her necklace does. Carty, who has modelled for the likes of Chanel, Pandora, Ralph Lauren and Dolce and Gabbana, is of Mauritian / Jamaican background and has become a proud advocate of the Black Lives Matter movement. So proud, she’s wearing her passion around her neck.

Known as Chey, the stunning model posed in front of a shimmering Seine in Paris – smile wide, tongue poking out, hair gloriously curly and windblown – in Dannijo’s sunny Bullseye Slip and Alicia Crystal Hoops. But it was her necklace that did the talking; a big colourful choker that read the words: FUCK RACISM, which she pulled to one side so the world could read it loud and clear. Captioning the series of images: “Proud of the skin I’m in 😍,” she even flipped the bird in one photo with her tongue out, further compounding the sentiment of her necklace and her thoughts towards racial prejudice.

By LA-based, Persian designer, Melody Ehsani, the candy-coloured choker is perhaps the most blatant – and powerful – statement you will get, and one that surmises Ehsani’s socially attune brand aptly. Creating a label that empowers women and champions equality, wholeness, and self expression, Ehsani’s pieces speak to political and social movements around the world – currently the Black Lives Matter movement – with a portion from each Melody Ehsani piece going towards the advancement and education of women in our society.

So instead of wearing your heart on your sleeve, Cheyenne Maya Carty wore hers around her neck – and we couldn’t love her more for it. F*ck racism, indeed.
