If Thomas Markle is trying to push his daughter away, he’s doing a good job.

Meghan, AKA the Duchess of Sussex’s father has dissed Queen Elizabeth, slamming her for having plans to meet Donald Trump before meeting him.

“If the Queen is willing to meet [America’s] arrogant, ignorant, and insensitive president she has no excuse not to meet me, I’m nowhere near as bad,” he told TMZ.

He told the site he believes the royal family has put him in the “penalty box” after he gave a tell-all interview to Good Morning Britain last week.

The Queen, Meghan’s grandmother-in-law, is scheduled to meet President Trump when he travels to the UK next month, despite planned protests of his trip.

Mr Markle also told TMZ he plans to travel to the UK to meet Prince Harry for the first time and see Meghan. But that could be in doubt after his TV interview, which would almost certainly be against the wishes of the royal family.

Thomas, who lives a reclusive life in Mexico, had planned to walk his daughter down the aisle when she married Harry last month. But he was forced to pull out because he was unable to travel to the UK following heart surgery. He also caused a headache for Meghan and the royal family by selling paparazzi photos of himself.

“The unfortunate thing for me now is I’m that a footnote in one of the greatest moments in history rather than the dad walking her down the aisle,” the 73-year-old lamented in the GMB interview.

Meghan appears to have a close relationship with Queen Elizabeth. She spent a significant amount of time with her before she’d married Harry, and she attended her first solo royal engagement with the Queen this month.
