Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially made their move to Canada, the royal couple has kept a relatively low profile waiting for the dust to settle after their bombshell announcement. Thankfully, despite all the drama, it appears the pair made the right decision for their family of three.

According to a source close to the duke and duchess who spoke to PEOPLE, “This decision [to leave] had been weighing on them for a long time, and they are relieved to have it done.”

“A weight has been lifted off their shoulders.”

Meghan and Harry are still staying at the same waterfront mansion on Vancouver Island where they spent the festive period with Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland. They’ve been using their newfound freedom to spend time outdoors hiking with their two dogs and relaxing at home.

“They both love to be outside and have been loving it there,” the friend continues. “When they’re not doing yoga or eating in, Harry will pick up sandwiches at a local spot, and Meghan walks her beloved rescue beagle Guy and the couple’s adopted Labrador.”

“They are enjoying living a quiet life. They go for long walks, they do yoga, and Meghan cooks. They are real homebodies who love to chill out with Archie and the dogs.”

As for losing their royal titles, neither Harry nor Meghan mind. However, it hit Harry hard to have to forgo his role as youth ambassador to the Commonwealth. In a speech a few days after the initial announcement was made, Harry said, “It brings me great sadness that it has come to this.”

As for when we’ll next see the couple in an official capacity? They’re reportedly working very hard behind the scenes. “It’s full throttle for them right now,” a friend told PEOPLE. “They have a lot happening in 2020, and it will be really exciting to see.”
