We all know that shameful feeling of running into someone when you’re not looking your best.
But Margot Robbie’s story from her honeymoon has to take the cake for one of the most awkward run-ins ever.
The Australian actress appeared on The Ellen Show overnight, where host DeGeneres forced Margot to tell a rather embarrassing story from her honeymoon with Tom Ackerley, who she married in December 2016.
Robbie joked Tom would kill her for sharing the anecdote, but launched into the tale of the supremely uncomfortable – but hilarious – encounter.
“The whole thing was so absurd,” the I, Tonya star said.
The couple were enjoying their honeymoon at a luxury resort in Tahiti, and decided to hit the gym one morning.
“Tom puts on these shorts, his oldest gym shorts, and they’re tiny,” she explained.
“And they’re like really short and there’s nothing underneath so he gets on his bicycle to ride there and I’m like, ‘WHOA. Babe, you cannot wear those shorts. They’re like — you can see everything.’ And he’s like ‘C’mon. Who are we going to run into?’”
As fate would have it, the pair walked into the hotel’s “tiny” gym and came face-to-face with Ellen, wife Portia de Rossi and Barack Obama, who all happened to be staying at the hotel.
“I’m not kidding, I’m not kidding,” Margot laughed.
“In a gym that is tiny! It was a very confined space, and we then had to do this whole, like, class, this stretching class and Tom meanwhile is trying to like, not reveal anything. And he’s dying and I’m crying so much, I’m about to crack a rib.”
Things only got more outrageous when a personal trainer insisted Tom stretch properly by doing some lunges, making it difficult for him to, er, maintain his modesty.
Margot said he had to place a towel over his lap to avoid flashing Ellen or Obama.
Not one to let such a hilarious moment go unacknowledged, Ellen called out to Tom:
“Boy those were the wrong shorts to wear today!”’
