It seems watermelon is really having a moment. After Harry Styles made us all long to have watermelon fights on the beach – or better yet – be the actual watermelon he devours in his music video for ‘Watermelon Sugar’, now Margot Robbie has gone and given the summer fruit a spin in her latest Instagram post, seemingly on Styles’ “watermelon sugar high”, too.
Like a cheesy Cheshire cat, the Australian actress grins while holding a healthy chunk of watermelon up to her face (which, for the record, is as glow-y as ever). Now while we all love the greatest summer fruit of all time (honestly, what’s better?), this however is not a tale about the Melon Association of Australia.
This is a story about fashion.
Doing her home country proud, Robbie reps two local labels in the photo: She Made Me’s romantic white Rani Dress and Lucy Folk jewels. Like a ray of pure sunshine, she drips in glorious pieces from Lucy Folk’s new Sun Worship collection, which basically immortalises the sun in gold and silver and sunburst gemstones.
Paying homage to the endless summer, the Mayan sundial – the Piedra del sol – plays muse, as too the exuberant palette of Luis Barragan’s architecture, a kind of oeuvre to the cultures, life and positivity the sun inspires.
And who better to articulate this than Lucy Folk? An eternal patron of the sun and bonafide wanderlust-ee, Folk divides her year based on where the sunshine hits. For the Australian summer, you can find her in her coastal North Bondi nook, and for the European summer, she uses her apartment in Paris as a base to journey back and forth from the Balearics to Marrakesh – and everywhere salty and sunny in between.
The messaging of the collection’s launch is also a timely one. As a small business, Folk has had to pivot and restructure greatly. “We have made some huge changes but we are feeling positive about the bright future and we will continue to communicate in our playful, colourful way,” she explains. “Life is beautiful. We need to stop and smell the sunflowers, look to the stars which are shining so much brighter and learn to love more passionately than ever before.”
Spreading the hope of sunnier, happier days, Folk’s collection is a fitting beacon of optimism.
