Just days after walking the 2023 Golden Globes red carpet in Los Angeles, Globe nominee Margot Robbie is in Sydney, Australia promoting her new film Babylon. And while the 32-year-old actress looks a million dollars is every single gown she glides down a premiere carpet in (recently, there was this Bottega green), there’s something extra special about the times she wears a homegrown label. Case in point: her navy-grey Christopher Esber strapless stop and drop-waist skirt worn today to a local photo call.

With her blonde hair tousled and a muted baby pink eye shadow, Robbie was an absolute vision and a walking billboard for the already internationally acclaimed Australian-born Esber (and with Santoni heels underneath).

Set at the beginning of the Golden Age of Hollywood, a time when the film industry was transitioning from the silent movies to those with sound, Babylon explores the relationship between Mexican immigrant Manny Torres (Diego Calva) and a very brash aspiring actress Nellie LaRoy (Robbie).

Babylon has been the talk of the internet, mainly thanks to Robbie’s admission that she improvised the kiss with Pitt. For us, it’s her Brooklyn accent on the New Jersey-born-and-raised Nellie that has us seeing parts of Naomi LaPaglia, the character Robbie played in her 2013 breakout film The Wolf Of Wall Street.

“I did Boston, Southern, I did the whole gamut and would read [the accents] and send them to Damien,” Robbie says of her working through 31 different dialects with the director to nail Nellie’s accent. “What we landed on was we wanted her to be from Jersey. We wanted her to have a low, husky voice but something that was grating and not pleasant to listen to.”

Robbie and Calva will walk the Babylon’s Australian premiere red carpet this evening at the State Theatre in Sydney.

Babylon will be in Australian cinemas on January 19.
