As Madonna prepares for her Celebration World Tour – a show which is already sold out in London, New York and Paris – multiple sources have told Variety that the biopic with Universal Pictures has been scrapped. According to the publication, Madonna was set to direct the upcoming film but says her sole focus is now on her tour.

Julia Garner was reportedly cast for the role after long a rigorous audition process against the likes of Florence Pugh, Alexa Demie, Odessa Young, Emma Laired and singers Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira. The biopic was set to revolve around Madonna’s famous 1990 Blonde Ambition tour, telling reporters in a statement she hoped it could, “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world”.

Representatives for all parties involved have declined to comment however Madonna hopes to revisit a film about her life in the future. “I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film,” the artist said last July, per the NY Post. “It was also a preemptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men. So I put my foot in the door and said, ‘No one’s going to tell my story, but me!’”

The “Material Girl” star will begin her world tour on July 15 in Vancouver before appearing in several cities across North America and Europe. Her last show will be on December 1. “I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” she said in a statement.
