Actress Lupita Nyong’o looked every inch the 1940s movie star at the 26th annual Screen Actors Guild awards in Los Angeles earlier today.
The Us star arrived in a custom column Louis Vuitton gown, but it was her hair and makeup that completely blew our collective minds on the red carpet. Nyong’o wore a double cat eye – that is winged liner layered in shades of black and white. Against her lash line was a thick swipe of Lancome Art Liner in Black Vinyl, and mirrored on top was the brand’s DramaLiqui Pencil in French Lace. A pigmented shimmer was glossed over the entirety of the lid, stretching up to the brow bone for added impact. Makeup artist Nick Barose finished the look with lash extensions, berry stained lips and rosy pink blush on the cheeks.
Vernon François was the artist behind Nyong’o’s incredible hair – a kind of 40s style French roll fashioned out of her incredible natural Afro. François explained that he used the Dyson dryer to smooth the texture slightly, before using Matrix products to add hold and shine. First up, used François Matrix Total Results Miracle Creator Multi-Tasking Hair Treatment to lock in moisture before heat styling. Next, Matrix Total Results High Amplify Hairspray maintains body and adds hold, before Matrix Total Results Length Goals Extensions Perfector Multi-Benefit Styling Spray was used to detangle natural hair extensions used within the style. To finish, François used Matrix Total Results High Amplify Proforma Hairspray to lock everything firmly in place.
Against her strapless neckline and diamond drop earrings, it was pure, retro Awards Season glamour.
