For one-third of UK-based trio London Grammar, Hannah Reid struggled with her own perspective during the making of their current album, Truth Is A Beautiful Thing. Four years since the release of the band’s wildly successful debut album, If You Wait, (featuring power ballads Hey Now, Wasting My Young Years and Strong – the latter saw the band awarded a prestigious Ivor Novello Award), LG will return to Australia this September. Ahead of their sold-out tour, GRAZIA spoke to the woman behind that soaring falsetto.

“It took four years for this album to release because we toured in a ‘not very sensible way’… we didn’t really have much time off so when that kind of finished, we then took another two years to produce this album. There’s a lot more going on on this one, there’s more light and dark, a lot more colour and I also think there’s a slightly London Grammar country vibe going on.”

“The single Truth Is A Beautiful Thing is inspired by a situation I was in in my life at the time… where I was really struggling with perspective. You know sometimes everyone in the world has different opinions so I kind of felt like I just needed a bit of truth for a while and find my way to a personal truth. I did slowly. It took a good couple of years.”

“As a woman, I feel really different come this album release compared to our debut… I think maybe I was really naïve and kind of just went along with what maybe I was being told. I think the older you get, it becomes easier to say no and decide in the qualities you want.”

“The album is collection of tracks more about… the relationship someone has with themselves as opposed to just being about another person. We can’t wait to bring it to Australia. I think your crowds are the craziest and the most kind of rowdy.”

“I’ve always listened to Lana Del Rey… As a band, we were blown away by her music years ago and still are with Lust For Life today. She’s created this Lana Del Rey world, it’s like the gift that keeps on giving.”
