Can I get a show of hands for everyone here who’s turned to a Lizzo track to lift your mood? That’s right, most of you. Her songs, with their themes of positivity, self love and resilience, are undeniably infectious and possess the ability to turn a tough time into a gratifying release of negativity. But while Lizzo herself might be the undisputed queen of prolific confidence, it seems even the Juice singer has her down days.

Taking to her Instagram recently, Lizzo let fans in on the moments that many don’t see from the other side of the screen. Posting a series of photos of herself on her page, she wrote, “Hi. I felt helpless today. I changed my hair color and did my makeup and made funny faces to make myself laugh. It’s the least I could do.”

The photos show Lizzo rocking her natural curls in a freshly dyed chestnut brown shade and styled in two cute top buns. Her makeup is minimal, with glowing skin, groomed brows and subtle shimmery bronze eyeshadow. And of course, the snaps were clearly taken ‘with the bomb lighting’, as the star’s proverbial Truth Hurts lyrics would attest.

“If you haven’t done anything nice for yourself today, this is your sign to find a light. Black girls, I love you. We deserve to be protected and loved,” Lizzo continued in the caption of the post, which received more than 1.5 million likes.

Followers showed their support in the comments, with close friend and fellow artist SZA adding, “WHAT I SAY !?? Lmao.” The pair had been hanging out with another superstar friend, Kehlani, in the hours before Lizzo’s post, so it stands to reason that the three were likely discussing the importance of self-care practices, including Lizzo’s feelgood makeup and hair rituals.

We concur!
