The Spring/Summer 2020 runways delivered colour therapy in spades this year. There were punchy reds, ocean blues, zesty corals and shades of beige that wouldn’t look out of place at Woodstock. Sartorial considerations aside, the multitude of fashion weeks also served as a mood board for our makeup, specifically trending lip colours. Take cues from New York, Milan, and Paris and opt for a punchy pout this season painted in hues of red, fuchsia, pale pink, dusty peach, and bright orange. But with great colour comes great responsibility, so make things easier with formulas that are light, long wearing, and jam-packed with moisture. Dior Rouge Ultra Care Liquid has all the hallmarks of a liquid lip formula (staying powder and foolproof pigment), but the addition of flower essence keep it comfortable and hydrating. Likewise, Dior Rouge Ultra Care is all of the above but with a subtle element of gloss. To map out your masterpiece, see our kaleidoscope of trending colours, and corresponding lipsticks below.

RED Hot

If love was a colour, it would almost certainly be red. But not just any red. The heart wants a red that’s bold, true, and a little too much. Hugo Boss served up a lust-worthy display of fire truck red suiting, leather, and coats, while Sies Marjan put a candy apple spin on sweeping gowns and lacquered gloss. On lips, we prefer a lighter finish. Dior Ultra Care Liquid in Bloom is punchy and true with a soft matte finish, whereas the Ultra Care in the bullet delivers just the softest touch of shine.

Fuchsia Forever

Fuchsia is not just for grannies in dainty, knitted cardigans. This season, it’s strong, vivacious, and here for a good time. It’s the perfect anti-red: bold and daring but just a little unexpected. Look to Off White angels Bella and Gigi for hot pink how-to, mixing shades of deep raspberry and electric magenta with finesse. On lips, Dior does Diorette: a blueish-based berry hue that will serve as an optical illusion to whiten teeth and brighten skin.

Shades of beige are nothing new, but this season saw them take on a peachy undertone straight out of the 70s. Fendi lead the charge, mixing tan, beige, dusty peach, and ochre shades into a muted rainbow of sorts. On lips, try Dior’s Ultra Care Liquid in Whisper – a sunny colour with just enough sweetness to breath life into an otherwise very understated palette.

Pale Pink

Like fairy floss and strawberry ice cream, pale pink is a saccharine feast for the senses. Brandon Maxwell captured its innocence in full force, dressing models in candy-coloured silk cinched in at the waist. Alexander McQueen followed a similar suit, sending Kaia Gerber down the runway in strong-but-oh-so-sweet feathers. Channel your very own Malibu barbie with a set of perfect pastel pink lips. Dior Ultra Care Liquid in Blossom is pretty but not too proper, whereas Dior Ultra Care in 808 Caress is sweet and delicious. Matched with fresh skin and a dusting of bronzer across the bridge of the nose, it’s a summer beauty dream.

I Sea Coral

Orange is one shade that certainly had zest this season. There were mandarin kaftans perfect for seaside sojourns at Alberta Ferretti, and citrus silk at Versace. It’s also the perfect on-trend shade for your face, given that a hint of coral will breathe life into any skin tone. Take cues from Dior and swipe on Rouge Ultra Care in Caress. It’s a soft but statement-making hue that looks fresh and healthy. Pair with bare skin, and a lick of mango-coloured blush.
