After very publicly going through heartbreak with her famous ex-boyfriend of five years Jack Antonoff, Lena Dunham has revealed she’s in a happy and healthy relationship. On Twitter, Dunham not only said she has a new boyfriend, but added that her experience should encourage singles looking for love not to give up hope.
“When I feel sick, my boyfriend makes delicious pasta & rewatches as much BoJack [Horseman] as I want, walks the dog & makes up songs about her face,” the actress and producer wrote on Twitter yesterday.
Though Dunham didn’t disclose new partner’s identity, she went on to encourage fans not to give up on love. “In January, all I tweeted about was how men are basically refried beans in human form,” she wrote, referencing an interview in which she revealed she’d briefly been engaged to another man following her split with Antonoff in 2018.
“What I’m saying is, don’t quit before the miracle, kids,” she added.

Back in January 2020, Dunham revealed she was “totally single” after breaking off an engagement to another unnamed partner. Speaking with Cosmopolitan UK at the time, Dunham said one boyfriend, following her high profile split with Antonoff, had proposed with the lace of a Timberland boot while they were snowed in at her parents’ apartment.
“I’d just had a hysterectomy, I’d broken up with my boyfriend, I was in the process of breaking up with my business partner — I had no business buying a pair of shoes, [let alone] getting engaged,” she said at the time.
Following her brief engagement, Dunham said she took some time away from dating. “I just went, ‘You know what? I’ve been dating since I was 15 years old. I’m allowed to take a break,'” she said.
“Sobriety for me means so much more than just not doing drugs. It also means that I abstain from negative relationships, Dunham, who celebrated three years being sober in April, continued. “It means I’ve taken a hiatus from dating, which has been amazing for me.”
In January 2018, Dunham and Antonoff split after more than five years together.
A year and a half later, Dunham shared in an essay for Domino magazine writing that she and Antonoff had been searching for “a place where we could build a future” where they would “consider children.”
While they house hunted, they settled on living in an apartment together. “The last time I saw that apartment was when we agreed, with love, that someone had to go,” Dunham recalled. “‘You can finally eat in the bed without anyone getting mad at you,’ he said through tears.”
When they broke up, there were rumours Antonoff was dating Lorde while working with on her last studio album (he is rumoured to be working on her third release now).
