Makeup artists can pull inspiration from anywhere when it comes to crafting a look: art, books, architecture. Pati Dubroff (who is best known for her incredible looks on Margot Robbie) has turned to one of California’s most iconic natural wonders – a sunrise – to dream up Lauran Dern’s makeup look at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

The look was a luminous mix of soft gold, hazy orange and deep, washed-out pink. Dern’s skin was natural and glowy, while her eyes were painted with warm, shimmery tones. Cheeks and lips were finished with a pop of diffused, muted orange-pink. Against her tangerine gown and strawberry blonde highlights, it was perfection – like she was standing in a permanent stream of golden light.

Dubroff kindly shared a selection of the Chanel products used to create the look: the new Ombre Premiere Laque, Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow, Ombre Premiere Longwear Powder Eyeshadow, Rouge Allure Liquid Powder, Rouge Coco Flash and Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick (not available in Australia).

Overall, it was a visually incredible mix of colour and texture, made all the more sweeter by the fact that Dern went home an award winner for her role in Marriage Story. For more details from the Critics’ Choice Awards, see our fashion edit here.
